Erectopus
Erectopus is a Théropode (comparable with the Allosaure) of the beginning of the Crétacé which lived in what will be later is France. The fossils were discovered at the end of the 19th century in the phosphate layer of Penthèive with Louppy-the-Castle where remainders of Plésiosaure S were also discovered, Ichthyosaure S and Crocodile S.
In 1882, the bones, which were in the private collection of Louis Pierson, were describe per Wild H.E. which classified them in the Taxon Megalosaurus superbus. In 1932, Friedrich von Huene (1875-1969), showed that they did not belong to the kind Megalosaurus and placed them in new a taxon, Erectopus sauvagei.
After the dispersion of the collection of Pierson, the fossils disappeared to reappear at the end of the 20th century to the National Muséum of Natural history of Paris and in private collections. They were placed by Allain (2005, p. 83) like Erectopus superbus in the family of the Allosaure S and the species was described as being a Carnosaure. It is the 3rd younger known European carnosaure in Europe at the beginning of the Cretaceous with the " théropode of Montmirat" (Valangian) of the south of France and the Neovenator salerii (Barremian) of the island of Wight.
