Ercole Ferrarese
Ercole Ferrarese or Ercole of' Roberti (~1450 - 1496) is an Italian painter of the school of Ferrare.
young Michel-Angel, seeing in 1494 its frescos (destroyed) of the Garganelli vault in San Pietro of Bologna, declared that this work “was worth half of Rome”.
Biography
Formed with Francesco del Cossa close to Cosmè Tura with Ferrare, Ercole of' Roberti makes its beginnings with the Schifanoia palate, in the room of the Months .The collaboration of Cossa and Roberti continues with Bologna where Ercole painted there the prédelles ones of the retables:
- Pala Griffoni whose panels are preserved at the museum of the the Vatican
- Pala of Ravenne (Pinacothèque of Brera, Milan)
- Pala of San Lazzaro (work destroyed in 1945 in Berlin)
