The team of Scotland of football is the team consisted a selection of the best players Scot representing the Scotland in major international competitions of Football, the World cup and the Championnat of Europe.
It is under the aegis of the Fédération of Scotland of football. Scotland with the England is the senior of the national teams of football. Together they take share with the first official international match of the history of the Football in 1872. If the Scotland is one of the three Pays which forms the Great Britain, with the England and the Wales, to which is assistant the Province of the Northern Ireland to form the the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, it has its own football team. On the other hand, it cannot dispute the Olympic Games because Scotland is not member of the International Olympic committee.
Scotland, for sixty years, has been regarded as an average national selection from its prize list: it is regularly present in final stage of the great international appointments of football starting from the Années 1970, without never managing to pass the first turn. The very recent victories of the Scot against the France (1-0 in Glasgow and 0-1 in Paris) in eliminating heats of the Championnat of Europe 2008 let nevertheless hope for a revival. In October 2007, Scotland is in the 13th place of the World classification of the FIFA.
Football is the most popular sport in Scotland.
The Scot play in navy blue and white. “Army Tartan” evolves/moves in residence at the stage of Hampden Park.
History
Scotland takes share with the first official international match of the history of the Football the November 30th 1872 against the England at the stage Hamilton Crescent of Glasgow. This part shows a tie without goal. The two teams already met at the time of not-official matches: the March 5th 1870 (1-1 with, Kennington Oval with London), then the February 25th 1871, the November 18th 1871 and the February 24th 1872.Scotland dominates world football during the five following decades, pursued by England. Between 1884 and 1939, it gains 27 times British Championship putting at the catches each year the four British selections (the English assert 26 times).
In 1950, Scotland is on the point of taking part in their first world cup (in Brazil) and is qualified. But upset to have finished second behind England out of hen of qualification and British Championship, the Scottish federation decides that its team is not worthy to go to the world cup.
After a long bad patch during the Years 1960, Scotland is regularly present in final stages of the great international appointments of football starting from the Années 1970, without never managing to pass the first turn.
It was the case at the time of the World cups 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990 and 1998 (it was not qualified in 1994). Each time, the Scotland was very close crossing the obstacle in spite of an often delicate pulling (at the time of these six editions it did not fall less than five times in the group from the Brésil!).
Since the end of the Years 1990, for lack of a competitive domestic championship, the Scotland does not manage any more to leave the players of the talent those years 1970-1980 such Kenny Dalglish, Joe Jordan, Graeme Souness or Gordon Strachan (without going back to Denis Law or Billy Bremner). It is not present any more in any European or world final stage.
The very recent victories of the Scot against the France (1-0 in Glasgow and 0-1 in Paris) in eliminating heats of the Championnat of Europe 2008 let nevertheless hope for a revival. In May 2007, Scotland had gone back to the 14th place of the World classification of the FIFA.
The Scot passed very close to a qualification for the Euro 2008 after having thwarted all the forecasts while mixing with the fight for the two qualificative places in company with the Italy and the France. Unfortunately for them, the last match vis-a-vis Italian was fatal for them, by inclining 1-2, boxing a goal of Christian Panucci with the 91ème minute, goal which will make run much ink, this last on the basis of an imaginary fault of a Scottish player on Chiellini.
In spite of that, Scotland carried out a great jump with the World classification of the FIFA and can hope for a drawing lot more favorable for next the eliminating heats, because it will be probably found in the second hat.
