History

During her history, the Hungarian national team knew various fortunes. She was in particular finalist of the World cup 1938, beaten 4-2 by the Italy

But it is especially in the years 1950 qu ' it will rise at the top at the point to become an almost invicible team and undoubtedly one of the largest national teams of the history of football.

The Football world cup 1954 should have devoted Hungary. Indeed, the Eleven of Hungarian gold had been unconquered for four years before beginning the tournament which took place in Suisse and they had the best duet of attackers of the time with Ferenc Puskás and Sándor Kocsis, both members of the Honved Budapest. With these two talented players and others like Nándor Hidegkuti, József Bozsik or Zoltán Czibor, Hungary came to be the first national team to make fall the England in its cave of Wembley on the score from 6 to 3. It had also taken down the gold medal with the Olympic Games of 1952 with Helsinki.

In Swiss, the first matches of groups made it possible to the Hungarians to sit their statute of favorite with two demonstrations against the South Korea (9-0) then the FRG (8-3). In quarterfinal, the Hungarians drew aside the Brésil then the Uruguay holding of the title in semi-final on the same score of 4-2.
Finally, the Hungarians found the Germans crushed in hen match and left on the same rate/rhythm by carrying out 2-0 at the end of 8 minutes thanks to Ferenc Puskás and Zoltán Czibor but the Germans returned in the part with the achievements of Maximilian Morlock and Helmut Rahn which equalized at the 18th minute before sealing the fate of the meeting at seven minutes of the end of the match (3-2).

It was the end of the large Hungarian team. Another team, less talented, took again the torch in the years 1960 by gaining two new Olympic titles in 1964 and 1968 and by atteigant twice the quarterfinals of the World cup in 1962 with the Chile and 1966 in England. If the Fifties were symbolized by Puskás, the player emblematic of the Sixties named Flórián Albert, attacking Ferencváros and Ballon of gold 1967.

Spent the Sixties, Hungary will find never again its gloss of antan even if it will still produce some talents like András Törőcsik, László Fazekas or Tibor Nyilasi at the end of the Seventies.

The very last participation of the Hungarians in a final stage of world cup goes back already to 20 years (World cup 1986 in Mexico). Today, the team vegetates in the soft belly of European football. In June 2007, it occupies a not very glorious 66e place with the World classification of the FIFA.
