History of the team
The team, which is oldest of the professional group, was founded in 1991. At the origin, called Telekom - Mercedes , it will take then the names of TEAM Deutsche Telekom (1992), Telekom Eddy Merckx (1993), TEAM Deutsche Telekom again (1994) then of T - Mobile (2004-2007) to name itself for 2008 TEAM High Road . This team counted in her center of great champions, such as Bjarne Riis (maintaining with TEAM CSC as a sport director), Jan Ulrich, Erik Zabel, Alexandre Vinokourov or Andreas Klöden. In 1996 and 1997, it will gain the Tour de France with Bjarne Riis, then Jan Ulrich, it also finishes 2nd in 1996 with Jan Ulrich 1998 with Jan Ulrich, 2000 with Jan Ulrich, 2001 with Jan Ulrich, 2004 with Andreas Klöden, 2006 with Andreas Kloden (following the downgrading of Landis) and 3rd in 2003 with Alexandre Vinokourov, in 2005 with Jan Ulrich. T - Mobile also gained the classification by teams in 2005 and 2006.
Rudy Pevenage was laid off in July 2006 of the sporting position of director of the team, as well as the runner Jan Ulrich following a business of blood doping.
In 2007, the team decided to devote more half of her budget (15 Million) to " The fight against doping ". This year, the Tour de France thus seems more not to be the only objective. Moreover, the T-Mobile bought many young runners such as Mark Cavendish or Gerald Ciolek, great hopes of world cycling.
Doping
This team, shaken in 2006 by businesses of doping, has this year a complete manpower and asserts from now on a more severe position with regard to doping. In spite of the revelations on doping within the team during years 1990 of old runners like Udo Bolts, Christian Henn, Erik Zabel or Bjarne Riis, the T-Mobile confirm its presence in the world of cycling until 2010 but could be withdrawn earlier in the event of new business of doping relating to it. In 2007, Patrik Sinkewitz was controlled positive before the Tour de France.
Finally, the November 27th 2007, following the businesses of doping to repetition, the sponsor T-Mobile decides to be withdrawn. The team will continue with another sponsor in 2008 and will re-elect TEAM High Road .
