Epsilon Canis Majoris

Epsilon Canis Majoris (ε Canis Majoris/ε CMa) is the second the most brilliant star of the Constellation of the Large Dog, and one of the more brilliant of the night sky. Its traditional name is Adara , or Adhara . It comes from Arabic عذارى `will aðāra' , “the virgins”.

Adhara is a binary star, located at approximately 431 light-years of the Solar system. The principal star is a blue Géante having a Magnitude connect of +1,50 and belongs to the spectral Classification B2. It has a temperature of surface of 25000 K and emits a radiation 20000 times higher than that of the Sun. His/her companion, magnitude +7,5, is located at 7,5 seconds of arc, but it can be observed only by the very large Télescope S, the principal star of the system being approximately 250 times more luminous.
