Epistasy

In Genetic, the epistasy indicates the interaction existing between two or several Gène S. Historiquement, this concept was used in two situations, where it has different definitions.

  • In genetic mendelienne, a relation of epistasy in general indicates the suppression of a Phénotype by another gene of very the metabolic Voie.
  • In quantitative Biometrics or Genetic, the epistasy refers to the share of the genetic variance which can be explained neither by the additive effects of the involved alleles, nor by the effects of Dominance.

There exist 2 forms of epistasy:

  • dominant epistasy where it is a gene dominating which will influence the expression of another gene coding a different phenotype.
  • recessive epistasy where it is a recessive gene which will influence the expression of another gene coding a different phenotype.

These two types of epistasy can be:

  • Simple: only one gene influences another
  • Double of it: i.e. to utilize 2 complementary genes

The gene whose expression is modified is known as hypostatic and the modifying gene is known as epistatic.

as example we can give the case of the blood groups at the Man
