Epiphyllum

Epiphyllum is a botanical kind of 19 Espèces of Plante S épiphyte S pertaining to the family of the Cactaceae , the cacti, originating in Central America. Also called cactus orchis or cactus with sheets , although this last also refers to the kind Pereskia . The cactus of Christmas is sometimes called, wrongly, Epiphyllum .

The sheets, which are actually stems, are broad and punts, 1 to 5 cm broad, 3 to 5 mm thickness, generally bors lobed. The Fleur S are broad, 8 to 16 cm in diameter, white with red, with many petals.

The Fruit is edible, very near to the fruit of the Pitaya pertaining to the kind relative Hylocereus , although less large, only 3 to 4 cm length.

The Epiphyllum are very popular plants of house, whose many Hybride S and Cultivar S is produced. In fact, by abuse language, the term Epiphyllum is generally used to name these hybrids.

Etymology

Epiphyllum comes from the old Greek and signigie “on the sheet”.
