Physical characteristics

  • Larva and nymph:
    • approximately 30 mm for the body,
    • up to 40 mm, with the Cerque S
  • Imago:
    • Body: 15 to 20 mm, 16 to 25 mm
    • Cerques: 35 to 40 mm, 15 to 25 mm
    • Wings: 16 to 20 mm, 15 to 24 mm

The life cycle of the Larve lasts several years. It carries out 32 driven before arriving at its stage of Subimago.

Localization

The larva is digger and lives in the gravel and silts in the slow sectors of the Rivière S of First category. Its surface of distribution recovers most of Europe, until an altitude of approximately 1000 m. It is rather sensitive to the quality of the mileu and suffers from the organic filling of the bottom of the rivers.

Blossoming

Primarily of mid-May with mid-June in massive blossomings (in sector not polluted), and until August by isolated groups. The adults (or imagoes) have one very short lifespan during which they were not nourissent. They are coupled and the females lay after having gone up the river at a certain distance.
