Entzheim

Entzheim is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.

Geography

Small village of 1871 inhabitants located at ten kilometers of Strasbourg which extends on 817 hectares including 300 occupied by the international airport of Strasbourg-Entzheim.

History

The existence of the village of Entzheim is mentioned for the first time in 736 pennies the reign of Pip the Brief.

It belongs to the monastery of Murbach which depends on the large abbey of Denis Saint. The village is entrusted in stronghold to the duke of Lorraine, his solicitor. By successive heritages, it passes to the bishop of Strasbourg in 1359 which gives it in stronghold to patricians big families, of which Zorn de Plobsheim, which have a castle in the village until the revolution.

The parish becomes Protestant in 1559.

The village undergoes the Guerre Thirty Year old with the episode of the battle of Entzheim, between the army of Turenne and that of Imperial, at the conclusion undecided but fatal on the site of the current international aerodrome of Strasbourg - Entzheim.

The vocation of Entzheim is primarily agricultural from where the dominant one of its large farms like Spittelhof, old colonge (firm managed by monks) which returns to the Civil hospices of Strasbourg in 1450 then to the sharecroppers of the time in 1819.

The end of the exploitation of the loess careers and the connection of a feeder starting from Altorfarm (arm of the Beetle) allow in 1770 the creation and the food of the “Lake” which is arranged and embellished during time, in particular by the installation of a water jet in 2003.

Places and monuments

  • the church, whose base of the bell-tower dates from the 12th century, is altered through the ages: the current nave goes back to 1810, the bell-tower is raised in 1848, the square is refitted in 2003 with creation of a small square to receive the war memorial set up in 1921. The Stiehr organ goes back to 1811.
  • the building of the town hall was built in 1936. It received at the same time the elementary school, the buildings of dwelling of the principals and the offices of the town hall.

  • the Aéroport of Strasbourg Entzheim created between the two world wars is established on the site of old the Air base 124, and extends on a surface from 300 hectares for 840 hectares from communal round of applause.
