Agnus Dei is an expression Latin E meaning “Lamb of God”. At the Christian , it indicates Jesus Christ in her role of sacrificial victim , dedicated to expier the sins of the world.

Prayer and song

At the catholic , this Acclamation is recited during the mass right before the Communion (except the Good Friday and the Easter Saturday). Its origin is easily in the Évangile according to Jean: “Here the lamb of God who removes the sin of the world” (Jn 1,29). For the Christians, Jesus-Christ is " the lamb of God " sacrificed at the time of the Crucifixion and which removes the sins of the world by its death and its Résurrection.

The prayer is also of use in other confessions, in particular the Communion Anglican.
