Biography

After two championships of the Brazil in Karting, Enrique Bernoldi leaves for Europe at the age 17 years to begin its career in the single-seater there. Titrated in 1996 in the championship of Europe of Formula Renault, it reaches the following year the British statement championship of Formula 3, where during two seasons it gains several victories without managing however to take down the title.

Regarded as a very promising pilot, it gains the support of Red Bull (the sponsor titrates Sauber in F1), which places it in its TEAM Junior in F3000, like at Sauber in the capacity as pilot tester. In spite of two disappointing seasons of Brazilian in F3000, Red Bull tries to obtain to him a place of holder at Sauber for 2001, but runs up against the refusal of Peter Sauber, which prefers to grant its confidence to the young person Finnish Kimi Räikkönen.

Always supported by Red Bull, Bernoldi finds finally refuge at Arrows, where it carries out in 2001 its beginnings in championship of the world. At the end of its first season in the discipline queen, the impression left by the Brésilien young person is mitigated: powerful in qualifications, where it regularly took the ascending one on famous the Jos Verstappen, it shows in race a greater inconstancy and makes many errors. Paradoxically, it is its “solid” race more of the year which is worth the most criticisms to him: in Monaco, on a circuit where the goings beyond are more than hazardous, it held in respect during 35 towers the McLaren - Mercedes of David Coulthard, definitely faster than him. A behavior anti-sportsman for the ones (Coulthard was definitely faster and was only with one incident of race to find itself in back of the pack), perfectly legitimate for the others (nothing obliged Bernoldi, in the same turn as the Scot, to yield its place).

In 2002, always at Arrows, Bernoldi does not confirm the few promises interviews the previous year since it is largely made dominate by its new team-member, Heinz-Harald Frentzen. Its season finishes even prematurely following the bankruptcy of Arrows during the year.

After having run in World Series by Nissan, Bernoldi carried out a short return to Formula 1 while being recruited as pilot tester by the stable BAR - Honda in 2004.
