The Low-California (in Spanish: Baja California ) is the State of Mexico located more at north. The major part of its territory is located on half of the Péninsule of Low-California at the north of the parallel 28°N. This area constitutes the Presqu'île the North-West of Mexico, located between the Golfe of California and the Pacific Ocean. Long of more than 1.000 km, and a width varying between 50 and 250 km, it consist of mountainous chains which rise in north with more than 3.000 m of altitude. Surrounded by the State of Sonora and the Arizona in the east and the Low-California of the South in the south and the California (formerly called High California ), it occupies a surface of 71  576 km ².
This State has also a border with the the United States. Low-California counts approximately 2  750 000  million inhabitants (2003). More than 75% of the population lives in the frontier cities of the capital of the State, Mexicali and Tijuana.

Since 2001, the governor is Eugenio Elorduy Walther (SIDE).

  10. 1989 - 1995: Ernesto Ruffo Call
  11. 1995 - 1998: Héctor Terán Terán, deceased the October 4th 1998 of an heart attack.
  12. 1998 - 2001: Alejandro González Alcocer, provisional governor.
  13. 2001 -: Eugenio Elorduy Walter
