Englebelmer

Englebelmer is a common French, located in the department of the Somme and the area Picardy, located at approximately 30 km in the North-East of Amiens, and at 7 km in the North-West of Albert.

Geography

History

The origin of Englebelmer goes back to the Carolingiens (site with the locality “ Champ of the Flarings ”).

At the time of the Revolution, the two parishes of Englebelmer and Vitermont amalgamate. The old church of Vitermont is used today as village hall.

The village was victim of the First World War at the time of the Bataille of the Sum, as the Camp Newfoundlander testifies some located in the vicinity.

Demography

Of 753 inhabitants in 1820, the commune counts nothing any more but 349 inhabitants at the beginning of the First World War, 258 at the end of the war and as much at the end of 2nd. It will reach its maximum thereafter only with 287 inhabitants in 1968.

The festival of the village takes place traditionally first Sunday of June.

In the commune a Riding school is " MANE IN VENT" (associate at the French federation of Horsemanship) which lodges an equestrian association: The association of the equestrian hikers to the Country of Poppy (AREPC)
