EnergySolutions Arena

The EnergySolutions Arena (before Delta Center and Salt Lake Ice Center ) is a general sports room located at Salt Lake City in the Utah. The owner of the building is Larry H. Miller, which also has the frankness from the Jazz of Utah.

Since 1991, its tenants are the Jazz of Utah, which currently evolve/move in NBA, and the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League. It was also the residence of the Utah Starzz (WNBA), which since 2002 plays San Antonio, but also of the Grizzlies of Utah (international Ligue of hockey) between 1995 and 1997 then Salt Lake Golden Eagles (international Ligue of hockey) between 1991 and 1994. Its capacity is of 19.911 places for the Basket-ball, 14.000 for the Hockey and the American football in room, with 56 continuations of luxury and 668 seats of club.

History

The arena was in the beginning imagined as a room of 20.000 seats for the Jazz of Utah and the Salt Lake Golden Eagles then to replace to it growing old Salt Palace (12 616 seats), demolished in 1994. Under the control and the private financing of the business man Larry H. Miller, work began the June 11th 1990.

The new room was inaugurated the October 4th 1991 under the name of Delta Center and cost $94 million dollars. The first match played in the arena was a match of Hockey opposing the Salt Lake Golden Eagles against Rivermen de Peoria the October 16th 1991, the Golden Eagles lost 4-2. The first match of Basket-ball played in this enclosure was a match of pre-season of the Jazz of Utah against Knicks of New York with Patrick Ewing, the Jazz were demolishes 101-95. In addition to the sports, the room was designed to accommodate great concerts.

In 1991, the airline company Delta Air Lines bought the rights of name of the arena over 15 years for a sum of $25 million USD. The November 20th 2006, the arena was famous EnergySolutions Arena because the company of nuclear processing waste, EnergySolutions repurchased the rights of nomination. The reactions of the fans to the new name were mainly negative. The new nicknames of the building were: " The Dump" ( the discharge ), " The Glow Bowl" , " Stadium" radium; , " Isotope" , " ChernoBowl" , " JazzMat" , " Big Bang" , " Tox Box" , " The Power House" , " Hot Spot" , " Palace" plutonium; , " The Fallout Shelter" and " Melta Center".

The room was the place of the tests of Figure skating and Shorts-track at the time of the Winter Olympics of 2002 with Salt Lake City (during the Olympic Games, the building was called Salt Lake Ice Center ).
