Eneko Arista or Eneko Aritza (born v. 771 - died in 851) was the first king of the Vascons, of 824 with 851.

According to the Song of Roland , seven years old, it would have been present at the sides of his father with Roncevaux this famous Saturday August 15th 778 at the time of the victory of the Basques over the rear-guard of the army of Charlemagne.

Eneko Arista was wire of Íñigo Ximenes Arista ( Semen de Gascogne ) († 781), count de Bigorre, and inherited territories which extended from Pampelune to the high valleys of the the Pyrenees, of the Irati (Navarre), with the Val of Hecho (Aragon). After the death of her father, his mother, Leodegundia of Asturies, married in second weddings the Banu Qasi Musá ibn Fortún of Tudela, one of the lords of the valley of the Èbre, whose assistance will bring Eneko on the throne.

The advent of the first king de Navarre or king de Pampelune was not done without clashes, so much on the internal plan, because of the opposition of part of the population Chrétienne (minority) to alliance with the Musulmans, that outside, Navarre being threatened on a side by the Émirat of Cordoue (in 781, “Abd Al-Rahmān Ier had seized Pampelune) and other by the Carolingian Empire, with the interventions of Charlemagne initially, then of his/her son Louis '' Débonnaire ''. The Kingdom of Navarre, (or kingdom of the Basques ) was thus born from an alliance between the Moslems and the Christians who disobeyed the religious authority to defend their national independence.

In 824, the Basques of Eneko Arista crush one second time the franque armed with Roncevaux, whereas it turned over in France after “having pacified” Pampelune. After this victory, Eneko Arista is crowned king de Pampelune.

In 841, reached paralysis, it must leave the regency of the kingdom to his son Garcia, who will succeed to him his death in 851.

He married Onneca. From this union were born:

  • García I {{er}} of Navarre
  • Galindo de Navarre († 851)
  • Assonated of Navarre, it married Muza II († 862)
