Enchastrayes is a common French, located in the department of the Alp-of-High-Provence and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Its inhabitants is called Enchastrayens.

Department 04, Altitude between 1200 and 1750m. 1 ski station: " Sauze-Super Sauze". Principal mountainous tops: The Cocked hat 2800m, Brec 1st and 2nd with 2500m.

History

The origin of the name would be of Provence; " enchastre" wants to say to put the rackets (with snow), since the commune is with the foot of the collar of Furnaces covered with snow in Winter, and which was borrowed at the time by the hawkers to pass from the valley of L Ubaye to that of Bachelard.

  • the striking fact of the history is the creation of the winter sports resort of the sauze in 1934 by M.Couttolenc then owner of ground tranformée in ski slope and firm transform in hotel.

One celebrates the mass there every Sunday mornings; it is joint Town hall of the village.
