Enamels and cameos
Collection of 37 octosyllabic poems published in 1884, Enamels and cameos is the top of poetic art of Théophile Gautier.
Whereas its first parts raised of romantic esthetics (the comedy of dead the, España) Gautier evolves more and more to the formalism.
Its poems become then jewels virtuosos with a little cold beauty without losing however their emotional load.
This new esthetics announces the movement parnassien.
