Empalement

The empalement is a consistent torment with " transpercer" victims.

Definition

The stake, pile of wood being used for the execution of this torment, according to the places and the times was inserted in the chest, the stomach, or the base, anus or vagina. The duration of the torment varied according to the place where it was inserted - a stake in the heart resulting in an immediate death - the shape of the point, size of the stake. It was necessary that the anguish of the torture victim was sufficiently long and painful to strike terror.
