Emmanuelle the Antille

Emmanuelle the Antille, born in 1972 is a Swiss artist . She lives and works with Lausanne.

She represented Switzerland at the time of the last Biennale de Venise. Scenario writer, vidéaste plastician, author of texts, she works by associating médiums and fields which vary according to its projects. She refers to the history of the performance (Bruce Nauman, Vito Acconci, Chris Burden, Jack Smith), of documentary photography or report (Larry Clark), or of the cinema (Cassavetes, for spontaneousness, the improvisation, this way of collecting the life in what she has of the more close friend Fellini, Pasolini, Atom Egoyan, etc), but also the literature or the music, without wanting to be attached more specifically to one or the other. Since 1997, Emmanuelle the Antille carries out films and series of films of which it draws from vast vidéos installations in which the dream, fiction and reality interpenetrate and are superimposed narrowly. Vidéos which are like daydreams. She translates the images of the dream via the medium of the video and makes visible and tangible the images resulting from the dream. “the dream is a parallel life, a form of reality. In the dream all is decompartmentalized.”
Most of its work thus turns around the shift with reality, of the relationship with the sleep, the limit between the dream and reality, of the hallucination. There is this idea to split up, show reality and the imaginary one at the same time. For it, the Contemporary art is a means of retranscribing emotions, to make the good share with people, the things, nature. He saw himself, he feels, he is in the life ordinaire.
The situations that Emmanuelle the Antille films result from the daily life (family life, meets social, etc). But the excess with which it puts in scene these actions makes it possible him to analyze certain aspects of the mental operation of the human being as well as the behavior of the individuals in a given social environment.
