Emmanuelle sister

Sœur Emmanuelle (born Madeleine Cinquin the November 16th 1908 with Brussels, Belgium) is a Religieuse and Belgian writer . It is in particular known for its caritative works in Egypt near the Enfant S, going in the line of the Abbé Pierre or Mère Teresa.

Biography

It shares its years of childhood and youth between Paris, London and Brussels, which are marked by the death of his/her father, drowned under his eyes on the coast of Ostend when it is 6 years old. It is at 20 years that Madeleine Cinquin decides to return to the convent in spite of the opposition of her mother. Is 23 years old, after studies of sciences philosophical and religious, she pronounces her wishes of nun in the Congrégation Notre-Dame of Sion and becomes Sœur Emmanuelle.

Sœur Emmanuelle teaches the letters with the College Notre Dame of Sion to Istanbul in Turkey and then in Tunisia. Throughout these years, it feels the desire to be put at the service excluded. She sensitizes her pupils, of easy condition, with the difficulties of the stripped populations of their country. She teaches with Alexandria and sticks much to Egypt.

In 1971, at the retirement age, it decides to share the life of poorest, the ragmen of the Cairo, in Egypt. Guided by its values: the faith in the Man, the Respect of the other and Justice, it manages to be integrated in their community.

While working in collaboration with the Ragman S, it contributes to improve their living conditions. Its priorities go to the health and the education of the children. In a few years, Dispensary S, school S and kindergartens are built.

It meets in 1976 Sarah Ayoub Ghattas (Sarah sister), then young person and higher dynamics of a convent Copte orthodoxe, French-speaking, resulting from a family of the Bourgeoisie which joined it and becomes the heart of the community. Thanks to Sarah sister, “the house being held”, Emmanuelle sister can traverse the world to collect funds thanks to its gifts of speaker and its cordial personality.

To support it in its actions, it founds its own association, in 1980: Asmae-association Emmanuelle Sister. Pragmatic, she wants professionnaliser her actions and to ensure her changing. Under its impulse, association develops its actions in other countries.

In 1993, at the request of its higher, Sœur Emmanuelle leaves Egypt definitively and joined its community in France. It continues to fight for more solidarity. Is she writes books ( Chiffonnière with the ragmen , Richesse of poverty , Vivre, for what that used? ), meets young people in the Lycée S and the schools, also deals with association the Friends of Paola in assistance with SDF and gives conferences to the sides of its association to sensitize the public with the joint commitment.

In parallel, Sœur Emmanuelle continues to give “a breath” to her association. She transmits her principles of actions to him which are each day put into practice on the ground. to educate a man is to educate an individual, to educate a woman, it is to educate people .

One opposes sometimes his exuberant character (and its outspokenness) to the discretion of his contemporary Mère Teresa, which occupied of the functions similar to Calcutta. It is in fact that if these two nuns, both very mediatized, carried out very comparable actions, each one did it in connection with its own personality.

January 1st, 2002, Sœur Emmanuelle is promoted with the rank of Commander of the Légion of honor.

Since 1993, it lives in a , old people's home Pradon , on the commune of Callian in the department of the Var.
