As envisaged, Haiti finishes last group with three defeats, but “Manno” Sanon marks the two goals of its country in the competition: the second against Argentina in the last match, and it registers its most famous goal against Italy at the time of the first meeting. The Squadra Azzurra had not boxed of goal since 19 matches before meeting Haiti, grace in particular to the talent of Dino Zoff. However, with starts second half-time, Sanon, left in against, eliminates Zoff and opens the score with the general surprise. But contrary to another famous Haitian goal, that of Joe Gaetjens in 1950, this goal will not be sufficient and the Italians carry it 3-1. Sanon is still to date the best striker of the history of the team of Haiti with 13 international goals.
