Emmanuel Roy Ladurie , born the July 19th 1929 with the Moutiers-in-Shingled (Calvados), is a modernistic Historien French.

Course

Emmanuel Roy Ladurie is the son of Jacques Roy Ladurie, catholic social, which was Minister for the agriculture of the marshal Pétain, then resistant. It began its studies with the Saint-Joseph college of Caen, then with the Lycée Henri-Iv in Paris and with the Lycée Lakanal with Sceaux. Former student of the National university of the street of Ulm (promotion 1949), it initially passed by a post of teacher in the secondary (1955-1957), then becomes attached of research to CNRS, attending the Faculté of letters of Montpellier (1960-1963) and lecturer with the École of the high studies in social sciences (EHESS). It is during this period when he teaches in Montpellier which he launches out in research, he supports his arts doctorate the Peasants of Languedoc (1966), and publishes his world success later Montaillou, village occitan . Of 1973 with 1999, it occupied the pulpit of History of modern civilization to the Collège de France. He was general administrator of the National library of 1987 with 1994, preparing the creation of the new entity " National library of France".

Undoubtedly one of the contemporary historians most fertile, it owes much with its mentor the large historian of the École of Annals, Fernand Braudel. In the beginning of the year 1970, Ladurie takes part in the current of the “Nouvelle history”. He is a pioneer of the analyzes microphone-history. Its most known work, Montaillou, village occitan (1975), are based on the notes of the Inquisiteur Jacques Fournier bishop of Pamiers (1318-1325), translated into French by Jean Duvernoy, to reconstitute the life of a small village of the Languedoc at the time of the Catharisme. He becomes thus a specialist in the historical Anthropologie which makes it possible to approach the men concerning last in the whole of their environment.

Former member of the French Communist party, it breaks in 1956 like his colleague Annie Kriegel and his colleague François Furet, after the invasion of the Hungary by the Soviet Union. He joined thereafter the Socialist party unified. He since analyzed his engagement and the communist movement in Ouverture, company, capacity: edict of Nantes to the fall of Communism (in collaboration with Middle-class Guillaume, Beech, 2004) and great political lawsuits or infernal pedagogy (Rock, 2002). Eclectic researcher, it was also interested in the history of the areas ( French history of the areas , Seuil, 2004) and played a pioneer part in the history of the Climat.
