Emmanuel Roblès

Emmanuel Roblès , born the May 4th 1914 with Oran (Algeria), and dead the February 22nd 1995 with Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine), was a writer French.

Biography

Born on May 4th 1914 in Oran in a working-class family. His/her father dies a few months before his birth, it thus grows surrounded by his mother and her sisters. The absence of the father consequently becomes dominant in its work. Endowed to the school, it enters to the Teacher training school of Algiers where it has as a school-fellow Mouloud Feraoun.

He visits several countries of Europe of which the USSR in 1934 then Indo-China and China of the South in 1935. He makes his military service with Blida, then with Algiers. In September 1937, it meets Albert Camus with a repetition of the theater of the Team, they are discovered many common points and bind friendship. He then joined the group of young writers who find themselves around the publisher-bookseller Edmond Charlot: Albert Camus, Rene-Jean Closes, Gabriel Audisio, Max-pol. Fouchet and Claude de Fréminville. In 1938, the action appears its first novel and Camus makes it enter to Algiers Républicain where it publishes under the pseudonym of Emmanuel Chênes the Valley of the paradise in the form of serial. It prepares also a license of Spanish to the Faculty of Arts. It is one of the first to represent the poetic writings of Federico Garcia Lorca.

The war crosses short to its studies, it becomes then interprets auxiliary army, officer-interprets, then war correspondent in 1943. He for this reason visits the Corsica , the Sardinia, the Italy of the south, and takes part in missions of bombardment on Italy of the north and the islands of the Adriatique. He is also victim of several air crashes. He is demobilized in April 1946 in Paris. He collaborates then in various newspapers: Popular the , Gavroche , Combat , French Aviation .

In 1947 it goes back to Algiers and founds the literary review there Forge , one finds there the signatures of Mohammed Dib, Yacine Kateb, Jean Sénac, Ahmed Séfrioui, Malek Ouary. It animates also a literary emission with Radio-Algiers. In 1948 it receives the Prix Fémina for the Heights of the city. It writes its first Play: Montserrat . Work created the same day in Algiers and Paris (with the Theater Montparnasse) obtains a considerable repercussion immediately receives the Price of Gantry in June 1948.

It founds in 1951 the collection “the Mediterranean” with the Editions of the Threshold which reveals writers like Mouloud Feraoun, Mohammed Dib, Jose Luis of Vilallonga and Marie Susini. It makes voyage to the Mexico in 1954 and the Japan into 1957 which inspires the novels respectively to him the Knives and the man of April. It makes play " The truth is morte" and a novel publishes which is a sharp success: That is called the dawn . Luis Buñuel draws from it a film éponyme left in 1955. It also impassions for a theatrical company amateurs: " The Theater of the rue" it is one of the founders. In 1956 it takes part in the Committee for the civil truce in Algeria and chairs the call to the truce of the January 22nd. In April it loses his son then a friend doctor, it calls then with his with dimensions his friend Albert Camus. With died of this one it belongs to the first circle which supports Francine Camus. After the assassination by the OAS of Mouloud Feraoun on March 15th, 1962, it obtains the publication of the " Newspaper 1955-1962" , held by the last until its death day before and of which it writes the foreword.

He also works for adaptations and dialogs in several films and telefilms. In Paris, he becomes member of the management Committee of the movement " Populate and culture". He becomes member of the Académie Goncourt in 1973 (elected with the armchair of Roland Dorgelès).
He dies on February 22nd 1995 in Boulogne-Billancourt.
