Emmanuel Arago

François Victor Emmanuel Arago , born with Paris in 1812 and died in Paris in 1896, French politician, wire of François Arago.

Burning republican like his father and his uncles, Emmanuel Arago is named Commissaire of the Provisional government of 1848 (prefect) in Lyon in March 1848. He resigns of the plenipotentiary post of minister with Berlin when Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte is elected with the Presidency of the République in December 1848. He is appointed of the Eastern Pyrenees of 1848 to 1851.

Appointed of Paris in 1869, he assumes in the Gouvernement of National defense the responsibilities for Minister for Justice, then that of Minister of Interior Department. Member of the legislative Parliament of 1871 to 1876, senator of the Eastern Pyrenees of 1876 to 1896, he is also ambassador with Bern of 1880 to 1884.
