Emishi

Emishi (蝦夷) is the word used by Japanese of the Period Nara and the beginning of the Period Heian to designate the indigenous populations of Tohoku which refused to yield with the authority of the Empereur of Japan. Emishi would be at the origin of the culture Jōmon. They are close to the Aïnus because they would have the same origin. During the period of migration of this population of origin, Emishi would have returned to Japan by the South since the peninsula of Korea whereas Ainus would have returned by the island of Hokkaido.
