Emilie Oberkampf

Born with Jouy-in-Josas in 1794 and died in Paris in 1856, Emilie Oberkampf , girl of the industrialist Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf, belongs to a family Protestante. Married to Jules Mallet in 1812, it contributes to the rebirth of the Protestantism which knows this time and establishes of asylums for children in Paris financed by a subscription managed by the bank of his/her husband. Tough canvasser and skilful negociator, it advances her projects with the support of the aristocracy and the upper middle classes as well catholic as Protestant. Starting from 1826, it joins together a committee of women with an aim of taking as a starting point the British experiment of the Infant schools to promote the creation of the nursery school in France of which it is one of the pionnières.
In its concern of preserving the autonomy of the maternal compared to the general provisions of the law Guizot of 1833 concerning the State education, it is opposed to this last, however its co-religionist. It will also resist the catholic influence which intends to promote the Impératrice Eugenie under the Second Empire.
