Brothers, and all two combatants of Resistance

Emile Bertrand

He is the symbol of Resistance to Décines-Charpieu, at the 23 years age only he directed a group of combat of Francs-tireurs and in favor French (F.T.P.F) of the region of Lion, he fitde many and daring actions against the occupant and their accomplices. He was stopped on October 6th 1943. After having undergone odious tortures without speaking it appeared in front of the Court of State and was condemned to died to the prison St Paul of Lyon. November 3rd, Elie Mignot, military commander F.T.P.F for seventeen departments of the South-west, imprisoned of then on August 6th, could see latticed window of its cell, the young patriot connected with the wrist and to the ankles leads until the place of the torment. At once he alerted his companions of cells and vibrating a " Marseillaise" the young F.T.P accompanied before going up to the scaffold. Emile Bertrand refused the last cigarette and last glass of rum and declared: " I never accepted anything of the enemies of the workers, and of France, it is not at the time to die only I it ferai" and he united his voice with those of his comrades: " With the weapons, citizens… " The chopper of the torturer stopped his " Marseillaise".

Jean Louis Bertrand

Born in 1913, volunteer in the international brigades to defend republican Spain against the nationalism of Free, at the beginning of the Occupation, it engages in Resistance to fight against the mode of Vichy accessory to Adolf Hitler, it finds death in a combat of maquis on March 19th 1944

  • With the cemetery of Décines-Charpieu was set up a stele where the two heroes with their sister rest, Virginia Didier which itself was condemned to the forced labors because of its action in Resistance.
