Emile Vandervelde
Emile Vandervelde (Ixelles January 25th 1866 - Ixelles December 27th 1938), is a Belgian Politician, doctor in right, Social sciences and political economy.
Political life
He adheres to the Belgian Working Parti (P.O.B.) as of his foundation in 1884, whereas he is still student, and ten years later, whereas he has just started his parliamentary career, it is him which proposes the basic ideological text of the P.O.B., the Charte of Quaregnon.It will become appointed of Charleroi in 1894 and will chair in 1900, then in 1929, IIe Internationale. He will be the instigator of the policy of participation deliberated on the socialist parties in the coalition governments.
Deputy Brussels (starting from 1900), his principal combat relate to the introduction of the vote for all and the social democracy.
As of 1916, he becomes member of the Council of Ministers (he will be it still between 1935 and 1936), then Minister for the Intendance of 1917 with 1918. In September 1920, it belongs to the delegation (with Camille Huysmans, De Brouckère, and its wife, Ramsay Mac Donald, Thomas Shaw, Mrs. Philippe Snowden, Pierre Renaudel, A. Inghels, Louis and Karl Kautsky) of the International Socialist who visits the Democratic republic of Georgia, directed by the Social-Democratic Party of Georgia.
He becomes Minister for the Justice of 1918 with 1921, he reforms the penitentiary mode then and is then named with the Foreign affairs of 1925 with 1927 (he will contribute to the development of the Pacte of Locarno) and of the Public health of 1936 with 1937. During these twenty years, the Belgian Socialists see succeeding several of the political reforms that they had called their wishes:
- vote for all;
- trade-union freedom;
- the 8 hours day;
- the pension and the insurance unemployment;
- the law against alcoholism.
He was professor with the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles and President of the P.O.B between 1933 and 1938. He was several times minister. Collaborate in the Germinal , literary journal, artistic and social with the Social movement and the Red Revue .
In 1933, creation date of the function, it takes the presidency of the Parti Working Belgian (P.O.B.) and this during the five last years its life,
He was President of the Second International of 1900 with 1918. He took part in 1923 in the foundation of the Internationale Worker and Socialist. He was President until in 1938 and Friedrich Adler secretary (the seat was successively in London, Zurich then Brussels as from 1935).
Its personal records are consultable with the library and the center of files of the Institute Emile Vandervelde to the Boulevard of the Emperor in Brussels.

Death
Emile Vandervelde died out with Ixelles the December 27th 1938.The realizer Henri Storck reports in the owner died , one as of his films militant, the advertisement of his death, his funerals and the emotion of a whole Belgian working class.
