Under the direction of Emile Holy-Claire Deville, he works like Capitaine with the improvement of the Canon of 75 imagined by colonel Deport as from 1895.This first weapon being approved by the army (1897), it then makes (as from 1898) several improvements to the howitzer of 155 mm Bange (1881) to make of it a gun court with fast shooting (the 155 C.T.R. model 1904 known as Rimailho): this gun equipped five regiments during the First World War, of which that of the philosopher Alain. Rimailho regretted the imposed technical constraints, for reasons of compatibility with an older material, with its invention, and which limited the range of the weapon with 7.000 Mr.
Here the judgment of Alain on this gun:
-
I live to arrive Rimailho, guns of 155 with fast shooting; I admired this clever mechanics; I on then occasion to understand that the fast shooting, as the powder without smoke, are ideas of cabinet. The fast shooting makes that one misses soon shell; but especially it overheats the parts and abolishes. And I add that Rimailho had a ridiculously short range; this is why it had well to be brought closer to the lines. The large German howitzers increased to twelve kilometers; thus they were held about out of reach…
In 1899, Emile Rimailho is affected in Africa, then to the rank of Commander directs between 1906 and 1908 a battery of 155 CTR to the 13 {{E}} Régiment of Artillery stationed in Vincennes. After a one year formation to the Center of the high military studies, it is promoted with the rank of Lieutenant-colonel in March 1911.

Like any citizen, Rimailho is mobilized on August 2nd, 1914, but the leaders of Navy-Homécourt promptly make include/understand with the Minister for the War which they require the demobilization of their new employee. Rimailho thus “is placed at the disposal of the ministry” on November 12th, 1914.
