Emile Ford

Emile Ford , of his true name Emile Sweetman, is a singer of English Rock, born the October 16th 1937 with Castries, in the island of St Lucia, with the the Caribbean, then British possession. It was very popular in Great Britain at the end of the years 1950 and with the debate of the years 1960.

Arrived to England in January 1955, Emile Ford starts to sing in the clubs, the balls and the bars. It forms a group to accompany it, The Checkmates, in which his/her two brothers appear.

It appears on television in " Oh Boy" , emission of Jack Good celebrates it. It records its first disc in 1959 at Pye Records. Its first success is Want C you want make those eyes At me for (December 1959), classified n° 1 with the hit-parade, which it sells to a million specimens. He is the first black singer with being popular in Great Britain.

Emile Ford obtains the second success in 1960 with One has slow fox trot boat to China , which will be n° 2 with the hit-parade. In 1961, it signs at Piccadilly Records. It occurs in particular in Canada, in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
