Emile Bréhier

Emile Bréhier (April 12th 1876, Bar-le-Duc - February 3rd 1952, Paris) is a French writer and historian.

Incorporated Philosophy in 1900, it teaches with the college of Coutances, the Lycée of Laval of 1903 with 1908, and with the college of Beauvais. He is arts doctor in 1908 with a thesis on Philon of Alexandria. He teaches then with faculties of Rennes and Bordeaux, and finally with the Sorbonne starting from 1919.

Mobilized in 1914 with the 344e regiment of infantry, it gains there the gallons of Sous-lieutenant it is quoted twice with the order of division and the order of the army. Reached of a very serious wound, he is amputee of the arm left and made knight of the Légion of honor.

In 1925, it is detached at the university of the Cairo and, in 1936, with that of Rio de Janeiro. Director of the Philosophical Re-examined and the Philosophical Encyclopedia , he is the author of many and important work on Greek philosophy and medieval philosophy and especially of masterly a Histoire of Philosophy . He had succeeded Henri Bergson in 1941 with the Academy of Science morals and political.

He is the brother of Louis Bréhier, historian.
