Emile-Georges De Meyst

Emile-Georges De Meyst is a Belgian realizer born the April 11th 1902 with Saint-Jose-ten-Noode and deceased the December 13rd 1989 with Brussels.

Following the example Gaston Schoukens, it is known for popular films: comedies like the rich aunt (1923), Bienaimé Lanouille (1935), the splendid cuckold scenarized by Fernand Crommelynck (1947), Ah! That it makes good on our premises (1950), of patriotic films like Brabançonne (1931), of the police officers like It dead (1936) or of adventure like Passeurs of gold (1948), the commercial triumph, largest of the firm Pathé this year.

But it is especially famous to have made a film of resistance: Soldiers without uniform .

During the German occupation, Emile-Georges De Meyst wrote for the prohibited underground press. While claiming to turn of the documentary cultural (as did it, for example, Henri Storck), it had succeeded in diverting a sufficient quantity of film to make a film on resistance. In July 1944, De Meyst and its usual scenario writer Rene Herdé (known as also Rene Van de Weerdt?) invent a false scenario-pretext in order to mask the true subject of film. The majority of the actors and technicians were not informed of trickery. The precaution will prove to be useful since the sound engineer had become a dedicated collaborator. By prudence, the scenario writer plays itself the main role of the chief of network. Turning starts during the last weeks of the occupation whereas each one believes that it is about a banal police film around a drug trafficking. The release of Brussels made it possible to turn the scenes with the uniforms more simply. Soldats without uniform was the first film on the resistance which left.

In 1955, Emile-Georges De Meyst was the artistic director, with Jaak Van Luyth, of the film the gulls die in the port carried out by Rik Kuypers, Ivo Michiels and Roland Verhavert. He exerts several times this function for Jef Bruyninckx and others (Joris Diels, Alexandre Szombati, Michel Romanoff and Jean-Marc Landier).
