Emil Knoevenagel

Heinrich Emil Albert Knoevenagel (born on June 18th 1865 with Hanover; died on August 11th 1921 with Berlin), was a German chemist.

He studied chemistry at the university of Hanover, then he was the assistant of Victor Meyer first of all with the Université of Göttingen then to the Université of Heidelberg, where he passed his enabling in 1892. He was professor with Heidelberg as from 1896.

Among its subjects of research the synthesis of Hétérocycle S is nitrogenized by 1,5-diketone condensation with amines. The synthesis of énones alpha-béta combined bears the name of condensation of Knoevenagel (1896).
