Emidius saint

Saint Emidius d' Ascoli is bishop and owner of Ascoli Piceno in (Italy). It is born with Trier into 279 and dies, decapitated, on August 5th 309, following a judgment of the governor of Ascoli, Polimio. Festival on August 5th.

Initially pagan, it becomes Catéchumène, studies the Holy Scriptures and receives the Baptême at 23 years. It is excellent a prédicateur.

It returns visit to the pope Marcel I {{er}} and is ordered bishop of Ascoli. Polimio takes it for the reincarnation of the god Esculape and asks him to make sacrifices for the gods, promising to him in marriage his/her Polisia daughter. The saint converts Polisia with the Christian faith and in water of the river Thirty baptizes it. Polimio orders the stop of his/her daughter and the decapitation of the saint.

To Ascoli, the small temple of Sant' Emidio Rosso recalls the place of the execution. Of this place, the Saint collects his head, and tightening it in these hands, goes to the mount where it had built an oratory and it is buried by his faithful in the cave located under the oratory. Thus one tells the miracle of the décapitation.

Saint Emidius is also a guard against the earthquakes. According to the tradition, it protects the town of Ascoli of the violent one seism of the Marches of 1703. The citizens, as a sign of recognition, set up in 1717, the temple of Sant' Emidio Grotte ale on the place of its burial. The small church gives access to a cave inside where according to the tradition, fall it from the saint was found, covered with basil.
