Emgann

Emgann , or Emgann-MGI (Movement of the independence left) is a Breton movement nationalist.

Origin

Emgann is founded in 1983; it is defined then as “self-management Socialist and Breton freedom fighter”. He is anticapitalist and antiracist, and takes part regularly in mobilizations against the Front National. active solidarity with the other liberation movements, like the Basques, Canaques, the Corsicans, the Irishmen and the Kurds…

Some electoral results

1989: with the municipal elections a list led by rear Herve Beg, militant of Emgann, reached the 9,8% with Guingamp.

March 2004: with cantonal, in full lawsuit " Attacks in Brittany 1993-2004" , Emgann introduces two candidates in the Coast-with Armor: Gaël Roblin, then in the course of judgment in Paris, obtains 2,90% of the votes with Plouagat; Fulup Kadored reaches 5,04% with Bourbriac.

With Bridge-Cross (Finistere), Elisabeth Kerloc' H obtains 2,18%. With Nort-sur-Erdre, (Loire-Atlantique), Morvan Coarer precedes the candidate of the PCF with 2,59% of the voices.

At the time of cantonal elections, Emgann regularly outdistances the candidates of the PCF, Workers' struggle or the Parti the Workers, with scores oscillating between 1 and 4.5%.

Topics and establishment

Currently, this movement is characterized by a speech from rupture, its active militancy, in spite of a low number of militants apart from his stronghold of the Trégor and a refusal to collaborate with the French political parties. Positions of responsibility are in place since the creation of the movement like that of secretary to the International Businesses, that of secretary to the Social Affairs is created later. At the end of the Years 1990, it is a movement badly established in the universities; it recruits among the teachers, in urban environments of young unemployed, of RMI co.s and employees, among whom temporary workers.

In 1995, Emgann creates the “national festival of the Breton people”, Gouel Broadel Pobl Breizh . The title Emgann is replaced by Breton Combat : it is the review of the independence movement Emgann. Yann Puillandre, which had taken retreat in 1998, becomes publication director of the new series of Breton Combat in 2004 to replace Denez Riou.

In 2006, Emgann signs the Joint Declaration to the organizations claiming the right to self-determination at the French State at the time of the international days of Corte, requiring the right to self-determination and the “decolonization”.

Possible bonds with the Breton revolutionary Armed

With respect to ARB, this movement permanently adopts a double language on the wire of the French legality which makes it possible to continue the separatist activities. “Emgann is not the legal window of the ARB”, which she however regards as a “patriotic organization of resistance” and of which she publishes the official statements in her newspaper " Breton" fights; , like besides of other press agencies.

Emgann states not to approve the violent actions of the ARB, but does not disapprove them either, by presenting them like the “logical consequences of the violence of the French colonial State and the despair of the Bretons young people”. It pays homage to Christian Bihan, former militant of the party rear Strollad Vro died by posing a bomb in front of the court of Guingamp in 1985 (official statement of June 11th, 2005), at the time of the festival of the Breton people. Several lawsuits showed bonds between ARB and of the militants of Emgann.

Several members of this organization were challenged at the time of the Affaire of Plévin; some were condemned. Others were challenged within the framework of the investigation and the instruction on the business of Quévert. None them was condemned in this last file.

Breton republic

In March 2007, a named structure Breton République was launched by Emgann-Movement of the Independence Left and the not organized militants.

The objective of Breton Republic is to start “a movement of restoration of the Breton national movement of progress”. I.e. to renew and adapt to the present and in the future, the speech, structures and political ambitions of what one could call the “national left” or “independence left”.

This movement launched a campaign: “Breton, we are a nation we have the right to decide”.
