Embryotomy

The embryotomy is a surgical operation aiming at extracting a Embryon, generally died, Utérus of his/her mother. It is different from the Avortement. It is practiced according to several methods:
- the craniotomy is a simple perforation of cranium of the embryo, which allows the extraction when the head is sufficiently small compared to the basin of the mother;
- the cephalotripsy, reserved for serious cases, the head is bored then crushed using a Céphalotribe;
- the detroncation is used whenever the fetus is presented by the shoulder: it is then divided on the level it neck to allow its extraction in two parts;
- finally, the evisceration is used when the body is very high in the uterus: the arm during in the Vagin is cut using scissors, then the Thorax is open: the internal bodies are removed one by one; finally, the spinal column is broken and the fetus extracted with the Forceps or the céphalotribe.
These operations were invented and developed by the doctors of the XIXè century to allow the expulsion of the fetus died without practicing Cesarean, then very often mortal for the parturient. == Voir also ==
