Elvin Beam

Elvin Ernest Hayes (born the November 17th 1945 with Rayville, Louisiana) is a former professional player American of Basket-ball. It appeared among the 50 Meilleurs players of the fiftieth anniversary of the NBA.

At the university

The January 20th 1968, the Big E and Cougars of Houston faced Lew Alcindor (known then under the name of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) of UCLA Bruins in the first university match retransmis on a national chain. In front of an assistance record of 52 693 fans with the Astrodome of Houston, Hayes marked 39 points and took 15 rebounds while holding Alcindor with only 15 points and allowing the vitoire 71-69 on the Californian ones to break a series of 47 consecutive victories of Bruins in the " Match of the siècle". This meeting was certainly worth in Elvin Hayes to receive the trophy of College Player off the Year .

Of 1966 with 1968, Hayes was the signal scorer of Houston with 27,2 pts, 28,4 pts then 36,8 points per match.

In NBA

Beam entered in NBA to the San Diego Rockets in 1968 and reached the mark of 54 points vis-a-vis the Pistons of Strait the November 11th during its year Rookie. It led the league to the row of the scorers with 28,4 pts and was of course named in NBA All-Rookie TEAM .

In 1972, Hayes was transferred to the Baltimore Bullets, where there remained nine seasons. After the removal of Bullets with Washington D.C, it made team with Wes Unseld to form a dominating duet under the panels to lead the team three times to Finales NBA (1975, 1978, and 1979. It gained title 1978 vis-a-vis the Seattle Supersonics.

Statistics

In its career, Hayes marked: 27313 points, (8th total of all times at the date of 2005) and glané: 16279 rebounds, (6th better performance). It was selected 12 times of continuation for NBA All-Star Range of 1969 with 1980.

He was elected with the Basketball Hall off Famed in 1990.
