Elric of the dragons
Elric of the dragons is a novel of heroic fantasy writes by Michael Moorcock in 1972; it puts in scene the adventures of Elric de Melniboné, an incarnation of the Champion eternal. It is the first volume of the Cycle of Elric.
Summary
It tells us venture of Elric, the emperor in title of the island of Melniboné, in the Multivers. After having dominated the world during millenia thanks to its sorcery and with its cruelty, this nation was closed again on itself. Elric, wire of Sadric LXXXVI, occupies the Throne of Ruby. It is Albinos, wizard and fine swashbuckler. But of fragile health: without drugs which it absorbs with length of day, it could not hold upright.
Elric is very different from its compatriots melnibonéens: they cruel and are interested by their only pleasure, can be to him soft and dream to direct its people with more justice, without being a puppet handled by the Lords of Chaos. He is the lover of his Cymoril cousin and the worst enemy of his Yyrkoon cousin who finds it too weak to direct Melniboné.
In this first novel, Yyrkoon tries to kill Elric at the time of a naval battle against pirates. After this failure, it removes his sister Cymoril and a fate of sleep eternal throws to him. To save it, Elric will have of another choice only that to be combined with Arioch, one of the Lords of the Chaos of this plan of the Multivers. It is as in these pages as Elric will find Stormbringer, one of the two runic swords robbers of hearts (the second being Mournblade).
