The elongation is a term which generally indicates a state of plasticity or elasticity of the primary membrane. The phytohormones, like the auxines and the gibbérellines, can act on the membrane properties, by causing a relaxation. Under the action of the pressure of water, the cell can increase its size, to reach up to ten times its initial size.
