Elizabeth Jane Weir , B.A., LL.B (February 20th 1948 -) is a political woman Canadian, which was appointed and chief of the Nouveau Democratic party of New Brunswick between 1991 and 2005.

Biography

Born with Belfast, Northern Ireland, Weir received a formation of Sociologue (University off Waterloo) before supplementing studies of right (University off Western Ontario). She taught the labor relations and the law the labor to the Université of New Brunswick, with Fredericton.

Elected chief of the New Democratic party of New Brunswick in 1988, it becomes the principal voice of the opposition to the liberal government of Frank McKenna, whose party then occupies the 58 seats of the legislative Parliament.

She is elected appointed town of Midsummer's Day at the time of the provincial election of the September 23rd 1991. She is re-elected at the time of the elections of 1995, 1999 and 2003. She was the only deputy néo-democrat with the legislative Assemblée of New Brunswick during 14 years.

She announces her departure of the political life the October 8th 2004, while agreeing to preserve the direction of the party until nomination of a successor. She leaves this station in September 2005, after the election of Allison Brewer at this station.

The October 13rd 2005, it resigns of its station of deputy to become president and chief of the direction of the Agence of energy effectiveness and conservation of New Brunswick, a Société of the Crown which has as a mandate to help the citizens to reduce their invoices of energy and to offer the inciting ones to the companies so that they implement measurements of energy efficiency.
