Elisabeta of Romania
The Elisabet queen of Greece , born Elisabeta princess of Romania (Elisabeta Charlotte Josephine Alexandra Victoria) (Sinaïa, October 12th 1894 - Cannes, November 14th 1956) of the Rumanian royal family was a member which became the wife of the king Georges II of Greece.
Biography
The Elisabeta princess of Romania was born the October 12th 1894 with the Château from Peleş, with Sinaïa. His/her father, the king Ferdinand I {{er}} of Romania, was the son of the prince Leopold, prince de Hohenzollern and of the infante Antonia of Portugal. His/her mother, the princess Marie of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha, was the girl of the prince Alfred, duke of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha and the large-duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Elisabeta counted among its great-grandparents the queen Marie II of Portugal, the queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and the emperor Alexandre II of Russia.Elisabeta married the February 27th 1927 with Bucharest the future king Georges II of Greece, and then became the princess Elisabet heiress of Greece. The marriage was not happy, and couples it did not have a child. Elisabet became queen of Greece the September 27th 1922, when her husband went up on the throne following the abdication of his father, the king Constantin I {{er}} of Greece. However, to the end of the year 1923, Elisabet and her husband left in exile in Romania after the Greek government asked the royal couple to leave the national territory. The republic was proclaimed the March 25th 1924, and Georges II was then deposited.
The couple divorced the July 6th 1935, little before Georges II is not restored and that it does not go up on the throne. Elisabet lived then in Romania, where it remained until the abolition of Rumanian monarchy in 1945, then took refuge in France. She died the November 14th 1956 with the Villa Pink Alba, with Cannes.
