Eliot Laurence Spitzer (born the June 10th 1959) is a American Politician , member of the Democratic party, Attorney General of the state of New York of 1999 with 2007 and governor of the state of New York since January 1st 2007.

Spitzer was born in the Bronx with New York, parents Juif S Autrichie NS.

Graduate of Princeton in 1981, it continues his studies at the school of Droit of Harvard. It is at that time that it meets and marries Silda Wall of which it will have 3 girls.

Once doctor in right, Spitzer worked for judge Robert W. Sweet with Manhattan, then it joined the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.

Less than two years later, it joined the offices of the attorney of Manhattan directed then by Robert Mr. Morgenthau.

Within the office, it successfully spends six years to continue the organized crime.

In 1992, Spitzer joined the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. It remained there until 1998.

In 1994, it tries to be made elect Attorney General of New York and to succeed Robert Abrams but is beaten at the time of the democratic primary educations by Karen Burstein (itself then beaten by the republican Dennis Vacco).

In 1998, with its second attempt, it is elected of accuracy Attorney General of New York with 48.2% of the voices compared with 47,6% with the outgoing Attorney General, Dennis Vacco.

In 2002, Spitzer is re-elected with 66% of the voices against Dora Irizarry.

Its action as attorney is appreciated and combined with the action of the republican mayor Rudolph Giuliani, criminality drops.

In 2006, in particular constant by two former mayors of New York, David Dinkins and ED Koch and by the republican business man Donald Trump, Eliot Spitzer is the democratic candidate at the post of governor. The November 7th 2006, it is elected with 69% of the voices compared with 29% to the republican John Faso and 1% with the Libertarien John Clifton.

It takes up duty on January 1st 2007.
