Eliot Born

Eliot Born , born the April 19th 1903 with Chicago, deceased the May 16th 1957, was an agent of the known American treasure for its efforts to make respect the Prohibition with Chicago, like like the foreman of the Incorruptibles.

Biography

Born was born with Chicago Norwegian parents, Peter and Emma Ness. It made its studies at the University of Chicago, of which it left in 1925 graduate right and economy. Born its career as investigator for Retail Credit Co started. (company of credit) of Atlanta. Named in the sector of Chicago, it was in charge of a work of second plan. It turned over then to the University, where it was devoted to criminology.

The efforts of its team had a serious influence on the decline of the businesses of Capone, although these were the tax evasions which betrayed it. In a certain number of great federal lawsuits in 1931, Capone was shown of twenty-two cases of fraud tax and approximately five thousand violations of Volstead Act. The October 17th 1931, it was condemned to 11 years of prison, which it purged as of 1932, following its call.

Born was promoted chief of the office of the prohibition of Ohio in 1934. In 1935, with the end of prohibition, he became director of the public safety of Cleveland. It conducted to it a campaign of fight against corruption in the police services and of help, like against the play. It however failed to stop the serial killer who made tremble the area in the middle of the Thirties, which could have contributed at the end of a honourable career in Cleveland. It left its functions in 1942, following a traffic accident due to alcohol.

Born left then for Washington DC where he worked for the federal government. He resigned in 1944 to become president of a company of safety, Diebold Corporation, based in the Ohio. He tried without success to become mayor of Cleveland in 1947, and had to leave his functions with Diebold the same year. He finally came from there to work for North Ridge Industrial, in Coudersport in Pennsylvania. Its book, The Untouchables , was published in 1957, little before its death, had with an heart attack. Eliot Ness was married three times, divorced two, it had a child, by adoption. It is buried in the cemetery of Lakeview with Cleveland.

Many adaptations of its life flowered, with the cinema as on television, centered as well on its activities during prohibition. The film of Brian de Palma, Incorruptible the , with Kevin Costner in the role of Born, was even oscarisé. Eliot Ness was also the character of the Torso of Brian Michael Bendis.
