Eliminatory Series

In the sport, a eliminatory series (or playoffs ) is a type of competition which generally proceeds after a season or regular series. The best participants or teams clash in a system of turns (or rounds) successive with direct elimination (quarterfinal, semi-final, finale) as in a tournament. Thus, in a series being played best of the 5 matches for example, the first team which gains 3 matches passes the turn.

The eliminatory series are particularly used in the popular sports in North America: Hockey, Basketball, Volley ball or American football. With the Hockey, Baseball or Basket-ball gaining it is the team which gains the most parts. With American football there is only one match, the winner passing in second round (second turn).

Concerning the Basketball, the playoffs of NBA dispute with best of the seven matches whereas those of the Championnat of France of Pro basketball has dispute with best of three matches.
