Elias Holl

Elias Holl (born on February 28th, 1573 with Augsburg; died on January 6th, 1646) was the most important architect of the beginning of the German time baroque.

Life

Elias Holl goes down from a family of architects and is thus first of all formed by his/her father, Hans Holl (1512-1594). In 1596, it becomes Maître of guild. In the years 1600-1601, he travels in Italy (Bolzano, Venice) and, of return to Augsburg, he becomes the " about it; Master of œuvre". But in 1629, because of its Protestantism, it loses this prestigious place and is nothing any more but " Geometrician of the ville".

Its tomb is located in the protesting cemetery of Augsburg.

Work

The architecture of Holl respects in particular the tradition palladine of Italy of North.

Its most important work is the Town hall of Augsburg, built between 1615 and 1620, and of which the " hall in or" ( Goldenen Saal ) is particularly famous.
