Electromechanical Nanosystème
NEMS for Nano Electro-Mechanical Systems , in French: Electromechanical Systems Nanométriques ; one also speaks about Nanosystèmes.
They are devices similar to MEMS, but on a nanometer scale. One speaks about NEMS for miniature mechanical structures, fulfilling functions of Capteur or actuator, of which at least one of dimensions is of nanometric size. Contrary to the MEMS which is developed since the years 1970, and used in functions general public since the years 1990 (microphone Accéléromètre for the release of airbag, cartridge of Imprimante S with jet of ink), the NEMS are a technology much emergent in which the scientists start to be interested in the Années 2000 and whose no application still left the laboratories.
Because of their size, the physics of the NEMS is different from physics " on the scale humaine". The surface forces become prevalent and the quantum phenomena in the same way. The Nanotubes of carbon are the raw material many achievements of NEMS (nano-engine, oscillator ultra high frequency).
