Electricity in New Brunswick
A public company founded in 1920, Energy NB (also known under the name Energy NB or NB Power , in English), produced, transports and distributes the majority of electricity to New Brunswick. Three cities, whose Midsummer's Day and Edmundston, has a municipal electric delivery system.
The network of the 14 powerplants of Energy NB has a clear working installed capacity of 3.313 MW, of which nearly 60% comes from six thermo plants:
-
1903 MW coming from the thermo plants, like the thermo plant of Belledune;
- 884 MW of the hydroelectric stations, whose most powerful is the hydro-electric power station of Mactaquac
- 526 MW of the turbines with combustion.
To this power is added, the energy produced by two power stations exploited by subsidiary companies of Energy NB:
- the Nuclear plant of Point Lepreau of a working installed capacity of 635 MW;
- the coal center of Coleson Cove of a working installed capacity of 978 MW.
Moreover, one park of wind will open in 2008. The 25 turns will have a power of 75 MW. The government wishes to increase the capacity to 200 MW from here 2009 and 400 MW from here 2016.
Part of electricity is imported Quebec.
