Electoral Federal Instituto

IFE ( Electoral Institut Federal ) is an organization public, autonomous for which the responsibility is to organize and supervise the Mexican elections at the federal level, i.e., those concerning the Députés, the Senators and the President of the Republic Mexicaine.

Since 2006, the general advice of the IFE is chaired by Luis Carlos Ugalde.

Origin and capacities

Following a series of reforms of the Political Constitution approved in 1989 and a new electoral matter regulation (the Federal Code of the Institutions and Electoral Procédures of August 1990) which defined the roles of the IFE, this last really started to operate on October 11th, 1990.

Tibunal Électoral of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF or Trife) which is charged to solve the disagreements as regards electoral litigations as much at the local level that federal depends on the IFE.

IFE can cancel elections in the event of irregularities.
