Elections in Indonesia

General elections

Indonesia elects by the vote for all:
  • the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (" representative council of the people ") or DPR, which is the National Assembly country,
  • the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah Tingkat I (" regional representative councils of the people of the first niveau"), i.e. assemblies of province,
  • the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah Tingkat II (" regional representative councils of the people of the second niveau"), i.e. assemblies of Kabupaten (department),
  • the Dewan Perwakilan Daerah (" representative council of the areas ") or DPD, which is the second room of the Parlement indonĂ©sien.

The meeting of the DPR and the DPD forms the Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat (" deliberative Parliament of the people ") or MPR, Parliament.

Presidential elections

Following an amendment with the constitution voted in 2002 by the MPR, since 2004 Indonesia also elects by the direct suffrage sound President of the republic.

Previously, the president was elected by the MPR.
